Packing for fall travel doesn’t have to be overwhelming. With unpredictable weather and limited luggage space, it’s easy to overpack or feel unprepared. But with a little strategy and intention, you can travel light and stylishly.

Airport fit

When I started packing for my latest trip, the first thing I did was check the weather. It sounds simple, but it’s one of the easiest ways to ensure your outfits are appropriate for the season — especially in the fall when temperatures can shift dramatically from morning to night.

Next, I curated looks that could easily transition from day to night. I wanted pieces that could be styled for taking in-person client appointments during the day and dinner downtown in the evening — without feeling repetitive. A few of my go-tos? A lightweight blazer, sleek turtleneck, and classic black trousers.

Outfits I packed for Seattle:

It rained constantly and was a bit chilly. So I focused on pieces that could easily be layered but could also work for wet climates.

Outfits I packed for ATL:

The weather was a bit warmer in Atlanta. I also wasn't going outside much because we were staying at the same hotel where the trunk show was being held. So I didn't need a heavy coat this time.

Lastly, I focused on comfortable yet chic footwear that could handle the occasional fall drizzle — a stylish ankle boot and polished loafer made the cut.

My Top Tips for Packing with Intention:

  1. Start with a color palette. Stick to a few complementary colors to make outfit pairing simple.

  2. Pack versatile pieces. Choose items you can layer, mix, and match.

  3. Plan in looks, not items. Pre-style your outfits so you’re not overpacking “just in case” pieces.

  4. Layer smart. Bring pieces that add warmth without bulk.

  5. Be selective with shoes. Focus on comfort, weather-appropriateness, and versatility.

  6. Leave room for new finds. Your suitcase should have space for spontaneous discoveries.

Packing with intention means choosing quality over quantity — and ensuring every piece in your suitcase has a purpose.
