How to Cleanse your Closet Space for the Season

Updated: Sep 10, 2020

Happy new season! Fall is almost here and now is the perfect time to start preparing your wardrobe for when the weather breaks. While transitioning into a new season gives you the opportunity to start fresh, making sure that your wardrobe properly aligns with your current lifestyle is important.

I recently completed a virtual closet refresh for a client who happened to have a ton of clothes in her closet that she hadn't touched in years. Since then, her personal style, body and lifestyle has changed. After working closely with me, she realized she was holding on to a ton of items that no longer suited her.

During her refresh, we were able to confirm her desired fit, more of the brands she loves and her current wardrobe needs.

When your closet is full, you'd assume that you have everything you need. But there are just a few things I like to teach my clients to keep their wardrobe fresh and up to date.

1. Properly refresh your wardrobe every quarter

Every season calls for a closet refresh. With the weather changing 4 times a year, you want to make sure your wardrobe is filled with items that will keep you comfy.

I tend to sweat a lot. So, during the summer I make sure I have shorts, light weight dresses and tops that will keep me cool and comfortable in warmer weather.

Here are 3 easy tips to cleansing your wardrobe:

- Remove items that are no longer your size (too big, too small)

- Remove items that are damaged (unintentional rips and stains)

- Remove items that no longer fit your shape (not flattering)

2. Take your measurements every quarter

As women, our bodies tend to change quite often due to stress, having children, losing weight, and everything else that we may go through. So, it's important that we stay up to date on our sizes so we'll know when to replace items in our wardrobe.

If you aren't quite sure what your size or your body shape is and haven't taken your measurements within the last year, grab a copy of The Body Shape Bible for some guidance.

3. Replace your wardrobe basics once a year (as often as needed)

The more you wear and wash your clothes, the more they will begin to wear out. Especially if you don't take the best care of them.
